Paris and Lindsay: Can They Beat Their Bad Habits?

With the recent/hard-to-ignore news that Paris Hilton was busted for cocaine possession in Las Vegas, Lindsay Lohan recently spent time in prison for substance-related issues and Lady Gaga has admitted cocaine use, it begs an obvious question. Why do these ladies with seemingly everything in the world — fame, beauty and fortune — still become entangled in drugs and alcohol?
Unfortunately, the life of a famous young woman is more complicated than simply cocktail parties and movie premieres. Let’s look at some factors which play into why these ladies have faced a torrential storm of problems and why their chances of avoiding similar troubles in the future is lower than you would hope.

Getting a flu shot will be far easier this fall than last, with retailers already stocking millions of doses and free shots available through Medicare and private insurance, officials say.

Death Toll Continues To Climb in Guatemala Landslides

An aerial view shows flooding south of Guatemala City. More than 40 people reportedly have died in heavy rains and landslides.
The toll from torrential rains and landslides in Guatemala moved higher Monday, with disaster officials reporting 44 dead, 56 injured and 16 missing.
Around 11,500 residents have been evacuated and 9,000 have taken refuge in shelters, the nation’s disaster agency said. More than 43,000 people are at risk from the punishing rain, said to be the strongest in 60 years.

My favorite long shot team this year is the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl XLV in Football Betting. It’s not a sturdy bet. Hell it’s not even a good bet in the NFL futures. The reason I like it so much is because if there’s any team that boasts a dangerous blend of personality and talent, it’s the San Francisco 49ers, who haven’t been to the playoffs for the past seven seasons.

Spencer Pratt may be in possession of a sex tape after all — one that doesn’t feature himself — because Playboy Playmate Karissa Shannon is threatening to sue Pratt over some private XXX footage he allegedly stole from her home.
Karissa’s lawyer fired off a letter to Spencer — claiming that he is in possession of footage that was “taken from [Karissa]” and “contains private materials” featuring herself and boyfriend Sam Jones.

Twitter Users Still Flock to the Website, Which Stinks

Twitter now has more than 145 million registered users, and sadly, most people still visit the social network through Twitter’s default Web site.
In a blog post, Twitter Chief Executive Evan Williams wrote about changes in the way people are reaching Twitter. He trumpeted the social network’s mobile apps for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry. He noted that Twitter mobile users have jumped 62 percent since mid-April, and that 16 percent of new users start on mobile phones.

Lady Gaga has been a superstar for maybe two years and there are already as many people selling out her story of her struggle to the top as there are magazines dedicated exclusively to the Jonas Brothers. The latest bitch-and-tell is by Gaga’s former manager, who claims in the horribly-titled Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga that the pop star’s costume secret isn’t Spanx; it’s starving.
Yes, Gaga will die to look good, apparently. David Clemny says she would binge on candy during tours and lost twenty pounds at a time between costume sittings. First of all, did Gaga, as a member of the Babysitter Club generation, learn nothing from the plight of diabetic Stacy McGill, who put herself in the hospital from a junk food freak out? And second, she can lose twenty pounds that fast? She should market that.

The Taliban is threatening to attack voters who take part in Afghanistan’s parliamentary election.
Taliban leaders are urging Afghans to boycott the parliamentary poll later this month, saying it is part of the foreign occupation of Afghanistan.
They say they will attack security forces, election workers, candidates and voters who participate in the ballot.
